Studio Portraits - Folio

This is my first blog for the progress of my Photo Prac Studio Folio. I have been thinking about what images to take for this studio and what lighting best suits the subjects that will be represented in my shots.

This shoot requires either the use of medium format or 35mm film. I will try and shoot with both to show me the difference in the two formats in the studio environment.

I plan on using one white background with Hollywood lighting, one grey background with renbrant lighting, one shot with a mirror as the background (hopefully for my alter-ego) with Hollywood lighting and one background with satin once again with Hollywood lighting.

I will use my mum as one subject, my brother's girlfriend and my friend Samantha. I am still working on props for one of these images, with what will work best in the set-up.

For my alter-ego shot I was thinking I would pose as Marilyn Munroe, in front of a mirror as my background with Hollywood lighting as it falls softly and is flattering.

I thought I had better get my ideas up here so I know what I want to do and where to go next.

Location Folio -Finalised

I have finally completed me Location Folio and handed it in.

I was quite happy with how my shots turned out. I did a reshoot and printed the new images as was discussed in class and I found this to be very helpful in making my series come together in the end.

Overall I found this task a good challenge and I enjoyed taking photos for it.

Progress Location Folio - Coming to the End of the Assignment

This is the first blog that I have written for April about my Location Folio. Most of my progress is being recorded in my actual Visual Diary, but I wanted to keep my blog up to date so here I am.

Okay I have taken about four rolls for this assignment and I have been quite happy with the results. For each roll I have used bracketing as I find this very useful when I am in the dark room and I can just use another neg if I am having an issue with exposure.

The final shots that I have decided to use for the submission of this assignment are:

- Shot of Mechanics work boots with a spanner in the shot in workshop
- High heel shoes with hand bag in shot in a wardrobe
- Basketball shoes with basketball in background in a street
- Thongs with beach bag and beach towel in shot on some grass
- Gum boots in a garden setting with a garden in the background and a shovel or a toll
- Slippers with a person sitting on a lounge or skate shoes with a skateboard

I already taken the majority of these shots, but after our in class discussion, I have decided to re shoot some of the photographs I have taken as they need to show more about the person.

The shot I have already posted on my blog of the high heel shoes, was one of the shots that I was happy with, but to make it better I am going to put it in  a different setting with a hand bag that is tipped over to show the contents of the bag, to tell the viewer more about the person.

The photos I took of thongs were good, but need to relate the the surroundings of the shoes more so I am going to improve these shots.

Overall I am quite happy with my progress and I will keep working on the areas that need to be fixed.

Assignment Progress - Location Shoot

For my Location assignment, today I went into Civic with some class mates and photographed some practice shots of my concept (seeing people through their footwear) using bracketing to try and experiment with exposures. Also by going into to Civic where I want to photograph some of my shots, I was able to determine the kinds of people that I would like to see in my sequence of images. The kinds of people I would like to portray as workmen, office women, school kids, , white collar workers, skaters and every day people.

The idea that I am trying to portray is that there is a large variety of people in Canberra through multiculturalism etc. By photographing all of these kinds of people we will see a number of different types of footwear. I will then be able to contrast the different types of footwear in my shots by placing two subjects next to one another to make them appear to be in a completely different context.

Some of the types of shoes I would like to see in my sequence might include: stilettos, work boots, school shoes, thongs, sneakers, skate shoes, bare feet and flat shoes.

I will continue to blog my progress as I go along

Location Assignment

For my location assignment seeing as though we have been told to photograph some aspect of Canberra I have decided to try and be as creative as possible. I have decided to photography shoes and people's feet in different environments in Canberra. So for example photographing a woman wearing high heel shoes in the office environment, or a worker in work boots at a construction site. I want to use these photographs to compare and show the contrast between people and their different environments. I am looking forward to taking these photographs, I think I have chosen an interesting topic
